Why Hundreds Of Burnley Fans Were Evacuated During Wolves Match

Hundreds of Burnley supporters had to be evacuated on Tuesday night during their Premier League match against Wolves at Turf Moor.

Tuesday’s match between Burnley and Wolves was crucial to the Premier League team’s survival, yet several fans were compelled to leave the stadium early. Stewards and police removed spectators from one area of Turf Moor, the Jimmy McIlroy stand, due of a persistent safety concern. The Sun reports that some fans watched the remainder of the game in the club’s Fan Zone, while @TurfCastPodcast on X claims that some fans were relocated to the lower level.

A piece of metal in the Jimmy McIllroy stand’s roof that hung precariously was the cause of the aforementioned evacuation. There were worries for the safety of the fans as cladding in the area came free during the first half. They were consequently relocated out of the danger zone, but the metal hung there as the match went on.

The Clarets released a statement mid-game explaining the situation: “Burnley fans are in the process of being moved from a section of the Jimmy McIlroy stand due to current safety concerns with the roof. We thank supporters for their co-operation and patience while we do this.”

Burnley supporters will have been satisfied with what they witnessed on Tuesday night overall, even though certain players were moved. After 37 minutes, Rayan Ait-Nouri equalised in stoppage time of the first half, after Jacob Bruun Larsen had placed the home team ahead. Despite their best efforts, the Clarets were forced to settle for their seventh draw of the year, dropping them to 19th place while Wolves managed to hold onto tenth place.

Although Vincent Kompany’s team didn’t get the desired outcome, they are now four games unbeaten in the league (1W, 3D). After 17th-place Nottingham Forest defeated Fulham 3-1 on the same evening, they are now six points outside of safety with that 1-1 tie.
