PHOTOS: Why Edo Youths Barricaded Highway For Hours

Travelers on major highways in Edo State were stalled for hours yesterday following protests by hundreds of Edo youths.

The axis majorly affected was the Auchi-Igarra-Ibillo road, with associated impact spilling on other link roads.

By virtue of the geographical location of the state, Edo roads interconnect other highways in the nation, and a disruption usually leaves spillover effect on neigbouring states on all flanks.

Yesterday’s incident happened because youths in the state were protesting rampant cases of kidnapping and the parlous infrastructure in the area, especially poor road network.

There were also reports of laxity on the security agents on the highways to checkmate the activities of criminals, especially against the backdrop of recent threats to lives and property in the area,

Both passengers and goods vehicles were affected by the protest, most of them suffering loss of travel time.

The protests alerted the Otaru of Igarra, HRH, Oba Adeche Saiki, who promptly dispatched palace aids to the area to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

Only then was normalcy restored to the highways.
