Who is responsible for tragic end of a promising 29-year old Sociology graduate in a most callous manner – inside a canal?
This is the riddle now before the police in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the Thursday incident
Not only was Blessing Moshood, Sociology graduate of the Kogi State University, murdered, her body was callously dumped in a canal in Jikwoyi area of Abuja.
A sister to the deceased, Abigail Moshood, told Abuja Metro that Blessing left their home around 8pm that day after speaking with someone on the phone.
She was to call about an hour later, saying she had forgotten her phone charger and would be returning home briefly to pick it up.
“We later heard people talking about the body of a woman discovered inside a canal, and someone described the type of hairstyle the deceased had on, which matched my sister’s,” she said.
“My mother started crying, and we also learnt that policemen from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the corpse, which was found half-naked with only a top on, to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.”
Abigail said she later visited the Jikwoyi Police Station to inquire about the incident and was shown photographs of the deceased, which confirmed it was her sister.
According to Daily Trust, a neighbour, Margaret, lamenting the tragic end of the late Blessing, described her as an intelligent and friendly person.

“I learnt she graduated with a Second Class Upper in Sociology, and whenever she spoke, you could hardly fault her English,” she said.
“She was also very friendly in this neighbourhood and will be greatly missed by all of us, especially the children who have been crying since they learnt of her death.”
Beyond the case of the Sociology graduate, another neighbour, Abdullahi Musa, appealed to the police to deploy crack detectives to areas around Jikwoyi Medical Centre to apprehend criminals involved in phone snatching and related crimes.
At the Jikwoyi Police Station, a police officer who pleaded anonymity said the case was under investigation. The FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation into the case is ongoing.
