Would you have known that internet fraudsters have laid out grand plans of fleecing unwary individuals this yuletide? Well, now you know.

It is courtesy of a public alert by National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

NITDA said the scammers would seek to bombard the cyber space with bogus festive season offers that unwary individuals may not be able to resist.

It has therefore advised Nigerians to remain alert.

According to the alert, these internet fraudsters would pose as genuine and trusted brands to seek to hoodwink Nigerians.

They would thus offer incentives and mouthwatering freebies like cash rewards, giveaways, or special offers that would seem or sound genuine.

It could also come by way of encouraging users to click to download from links, input sensitive personal data or transfer money.

“The scammers often disguise as legitimate companies and send fake messages promising cash rewards or giveaways. These messages might claim that you’ve been “chosen” to receive money and ask you to click on a link or provide personal details.

“Under the pretense of generosity during the festive season, these Scams aim to trick victims into revealing personal information, downloading malicious software, or sending money,” NITDA explained.

“Report the scam to the appropriate authorities to aid investigations and prevent further occurrences, and spread awareness among friends and family to ensure they remain cautious,” the agency added.
