Wahala Has Started In Ondo As Medical Doctors There…

Wahala has really started in Ondo State, given that medical doctors there have commenced a warning strike.

They are embarking on the action under the aegis of the National Association of Government General and Dental Practitioners, over what they describe as gross neglect of the health sector by the state government.

Truly wahala has started because the warning strike is already disrupting medical services in government-owned hospitals across the state.

State Chairman and Secretary of the association, Dr. Richard Obe, and Secretary, Dr. Adekunle Owolabi, cite acute shortage of personnel, to the point of some hospitals operate with only one doctor per local government.

National Association of Government General and Dental Practitioners slam the government for the following:

1. non-payment of salaries and allowances to 8 doctors employed in October 2024,
2. an increase in taxation since April 2025 without prior engagement.
3. unpaid hazard allowances for October to December 2023 and January 2024,
4. outstanding promotion arrears from June to December 2024, and salary shortfalls and
5. unpaid allowances for other members.

The association warned that failure to meet their demands could lead to a total and indefinite industrial action, potentially crippling the already fragile state health system.

Their demands include immediate recruitment of more doctors across the 18 local government areas, payment of all outstanding salaries and statutory allowances, reversal of the new tax regime, and settlement of promotion arrears.

Wahala has started in Ondo in a situation where, according to them, the government had failed to respond to a 14-working-day ultimatum earlier given to the government.
