Tragic Loss: Birthday Getaway Party Struck by Blood Cancer Death

If anyone had told her that blood cancer would not allow an exclusive birthday getaway bash she was planning with her beloved son, would not see the light of day, she probably would have dismissed it as a cruel joke

But that reality is just what has eventually played for Gospel singer, Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, popularly known as Betty Bayo

Rather than the exclusive bash she had envisaged for just the two of them, at a destination they had yet to conclude, friends and relations would now be forced to host guests to her funeral.

Bayo passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, following a battle with advanced blood cancer

The sad development has draped the Kenya entertainment community in mourning, again underscoring for the living, the futility of hope and the craftiness of life.

Bayo, had before her passing, shared a video speaking about booking an intimate holiday for just the two of them:

“I’m here to book a holiday destination for my upcoming birthday next month. Funny enough, we share the same birth date with my son.

“This time around, I don’t want to spend it with anyone else; it’s just me and my son.”

The choice was between Kiambu Kenya which the son had chosen and a yet-to-be determined destination which the late artiste was encouraging him to suggest.

Meanwhile, that death through blood cancer, blood cancer (leukemia) at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH)., has been generating reactions.

Pastor Victor Kanyari, Bayo’s ex-husband, in an emotional message, said: “It hurts in ways I can’t explain. You left before I could say everything I needed to.

“I still see you in every laugh our children give, in every little habit that reminds me of you. We had our moments, both the fire and the calm, but through it all, you were family.

“I’ll carry your memory, your love, and your spirit forever. Rest easy; you’ll always be missed.”

For over 15 years, Betty lifted spirits through music that spoke of resilience, renewal and steadfast faith in the face of life’s challenges.

Her message was consistent, clear, and heartfelt: never give up, no matter the hour, no matter the storm.
