Tensions Rise After Gunmen Invade Health Centre, Abduct All Staff On Duty

Tension and anger are on their peak in Ondo, following the invasion of a health centre by yet to be ascertained gunmen and subsequent abduction of all staff on duty.

The incident happened at a health centre in Oke Ijebu area of Akure, the Ondo State capital around 2am, with a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son among the victims.

They were abducted at Pelebe, on the outskirts of Oda-Akure Road, between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Corps Commander, Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye said.

An account by a patient is that the gunmen stormed the place in a large bus, and upon forcefully gaining entry into took away six health workers.

But once the information got out, operatives of Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, swung into action, succeeding in rescuing five persons in Akure South Local Government Area of the state.

According to Adeleye, health workers who were earlier abducted also regained their freedom at about 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving treatment at the Amotekun health facility.

He stated that only three of the hospital workers were kidnapped, while urging the people to always provide information to the security agencies to enable effective stemming of such incidents.

Though the Amotekun reaction to the security breach remains commendable, anxiety still pervades in the area of possible attacks in the fashion in the future.
