With a 4-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest advanced to the quarterfinals thanks in large part to Taiwo Awoniyi fourth goal across all competitions.

A minute before the break, though, Blackburn equalized as Scott Wharton got by the misplaced defenders.

Following Jesse Lingard’s strike in the 53rd minute, which gave his club its second goal of the evening, he then assisted Awoniyi in the 15th minute to give the Premier League team a two-goal advantage.

If Awoniyi regains his form from 2021/22 while playing for Union Berlin, Forest can be optimistic about remaining in the English top division after this season.
