The Kaduna state government is unhappy with the three senators representing the state at the upper legislative house, in the National Assembly.

The anger is based on the allegation that they were frustrating a World Bank sponsored education project worth about $350million.

About N74.7billion, representing 70 per cent of the project value had been earmarked by the state government for investment in infrastructural development in the education sector, but these may not be if the senators do not rescind their decision.

The state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Ja’afaru Sani, in the course of a two-day tour of project sites in the state, described the senators’ action as a serious setback for infrastructure development in the state.

He urged the senators to reconsider their stance in the interest of the education sector, adding the idea was to improve quality delivery in the sector.

Our investigations show that the state is pursuing the project with financial support from the Islamic Development Bank, and two schools each from the three senatorial districts, are expected to benefit from the facility.

The commissioner while speaking to journalists at the project site said:

“We want to have an environment where our students would at basic level be acquainted with the basic rudiments of science and technology for them to grow up and become inventors, scientists and technologists.

“The world is technology-driven and all effort must to be made to lay the necessary foundation for our children to have interest in the field of science and technology.

“The current emphasis on education across the world is on science and technology; equipping our children with such skills is the way to go enable them compete favourably with their contemporaries anywhere in the world, “he said.

According to him “I want to assure you that the state government and the Bank will continue to supervise the work and ensure the contractors get the necessary cash backing for them to deliver as promised.

“The progress of work at Manchok, Buruku and Rigachukun is not as impressive as the one in Jere, but the contractors have assured us they will speed up the work to meet the dateline, “the commissioner said.
