Secondary School Students Beat Physics Teacher To Coma

A Physics teacher in a secondary school is now battling for his life after some students allegedly beat him to coma.

The Physics teacher identified as Mr Muktar Salihu became the target of Senor Secondary 2 students of the Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe, (EMCCO) in Okene LGA, Kogi state where he teaches, in their planned bid to intimidate the school.

They had carried out the assault on the Physics teacher acting on the auspices of a cult group, and their leader, identified as Abdulbatin is said to be , a son to a traditional ruler in the area – the Opokitipo of Esusu clan in Okengwe district of the Okene council Area.

The attack has made people call on the authorities to wade into the matter and bring the boy and his group to justice.

“We urge the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, the security agencies and other relevant authorities to urgently swing into action with a view to bring the perpetuators to book, forestall future occurences and instill discipline in our schools and colleges” a teachers in the school reportedly pleaded.

The Eagle reports a related incident last July when a joint security team of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, arrested three students of the institution and five others suspected to be members of secret society.

They were also suspected to be hard drug peddlers.

The Director, Public Relations and Protocol Kogi State Polytechnic, Uredo Omale, said in a statement that:

“the apprehended students who are all of HND II in the Department of Business Administration include Ajayi Oluwaseun Oladipo (Matric No.2022/HND/BUS/275), Isenre Elijah Ayomide (Matric No.2022/HND/BUS/146) and Omonijo Sunday (Matric. No2022/HND/BUS/181).

He said the arrest of the suspects was a proactive move by the management of the institution to checkmate infiltration of cultists and other outlawed groups.

Their intent, was to cause harm to their targets and commotion on the campus during the examination.

The current attack on the physics teacher has underscored the need for vigilance on the part of the security men, on the one hand, and the need for the authorities to sanction perpetrators of the latest action to serve as a deterrent to others.
