Saudi King Floods Kano With Food Relief For The Vulnerable

A Saudi King-run humanitarian agency, is flooding Kano with food relief for victims of recent disasters in the state.

The food items which went under distribution from today, under the supervision of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), was donated by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief)

The director-general Mr Mustapha Habib expressed gratitude to the Crown Prince, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Prime Minister, Mohammad bin Salman, while speaking on the gesture.

He did not leave out the Manager of KSrelief and the entire people of Saudi Arabia, over the initiative.

The Deputy Counsel General, Saudi Embassy, Kano, Alhaji Nawaf Muhammad, said that the food relief was aimed at alleviating victims of the disasters.

Providing a background, Mr Mustapha Habib, who was represented by NEMA’s Planning, Research and Forecasting Officer, Hajiya Fatima Kassim, said that the donation, coming at the time of the Ramadan was timely.

He said about 500 households were rendered vulnerable by disasters in some communities in some local government areas of Kano, affected by disasters had earlier been profiled by his agency.

He said the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA)  and NEMA had earlier profiled some communities affected by disasters .

“Each household will get a total of 59.8kg of food items, including rice (25kg), beans (25kg), masa vita flour (4kg), tomato paste (2kg), vegetable oil (2 litres) and salt (0.8kg),” he said.

“The food items will go a long way in contributing to the recovery process of the beneficiaries who have been impacted by insurgency,” he said.

Dr Saleh Jili of SEMA appreciated the two agencies for the fruitful collaboration, while advising the beneficiaries to utilise same effectively.
