RRS Swoops On Drivers For Driving Through Moshalashi, Alhaja Areas

The Moshalashi, Alhaja bus stop and axis in Agege Lagos has become a risky stop zone for both commercial and private drivers in the last two days.
This is because a detachment of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has been stationed there and have been arresting drivers who dared stop there to pick or drop passengers.
The development which caught most motorists on the axis unawares has been causing a stir, especially with the sight of the RRS patrol car marked 369, 059 and two other black marias,
The officer heading the patrol said their intention was to forestall any form of attack, without giving explanation.
Our correspondent who was at the spot reports witnessing arrest of some drivers while others had to do quick U-turns in a despite escape.
Those arrested in Moshalashi, Alhaja area included both commercial and private drivers, and also tricycle operators.
Two small commercial buses popularly known as korope, one private car owner and two tricycle drivers who ran into the team were stopped and questioned why they decided to dare the police team.
One of the drivers with vehicle number GGE257xy had just dropped passengers at the bus stop before his arrest, but he argued that he had just resumed duty since the morning and was not aware of any rule forbidding them from plying the route.
Another with vehicle number LSR87yc, who simply identified himself as Mr Sunday but popularly known as ‘pastor” said he thought the reason for this arrest was because a hasty passenger who tried jumped down without waiting for him to stop.
He said he was asked to pay a fine of N2,000 for violating a rule he said he was unaware of, and that he could not pay.
A tout, obviously stationed in the Moshalashi, Alhaja area took it upon himself alerting the other unsuspecting drivers against passing by the spot.

As at the time of this report, it was clear the exact motive for the police presence and arrests of the commercial bus operators.
