Revealed: Chelsea Boss Pochettino Did Not Want To Sign Palmer From Man City 

Cole Palmer made headlines when he made a sensational move from Manchester City to their rivals Chelsea.

The Englishman, who failed to secure a spot in the starting lineup of the triple winners, moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer for a reported fee of £45 million ($57 million). With the Blues, the 21-year-old has created waves. In a 4-4 draw with his former team, he even scored an equaliser in injury time. The Daily Mail has revealed that Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was opposed to the young player’s signing. The Argentine coach thought the team already possessed enough wide attackers, but Chelsea’s head of recruitment Joe Shields eventually persuaded him otherwise.

Palmer, who has scored the third-most goals for the Blues this season in the Premier League, only behind Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling, has swiftly established himself as a starter and a fan favourite. Last month, when the Three Lions played Malta and North Macedonia, the young player also received his first call-up to the England national squad. He came on as a second-half replacement in both matches.

Palmer became the 13th Chelsea player to represent England under Gareth Southgate, the highest of any Premier League club, when he played for Southgate’s team against Malta, according to Opta.

The England star  is expected to start for the Blues on Sunday, December 3 against Brighton as they attempt to get back on track following a 4-1 loss to Newcastle United. Pochettino has stated that he has been unexpectedly pleased with Palmer’s ability.
