The police investing the Peter Obi convoy attack in Cross River State has arrested a 27-year-old man, Victor Edet Yellow Duke in connection with the incident.
Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, were in the state for campaign when the incident happened.
The Peter Obi convoy attack happened on the way from the palace of the Obong of Calabar to Metropolitan Hotel, the venue of the party’s presidential town hall meeting.
At about 2:20 p.m at the Watt Market Roundabout, some hoodlums decided to cause trouble.

The police said, suspected hoodlums, reportedly armed with machetes and sticks, emerged from the Calabar Road and Clerks Alley axis and began to unleash mayhem on the convoy.
It took the prompt intervention of Policemen deployed in the area to ensure the attack did not get out of hand.
The police fired tear gas to disperse the attackers, promptly arresting Edet.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, a statement by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, stated,
“The arrest of a suspect does not amount to a determination of guilt, as the suspect remains entitled to the presumption of innocence pending the conclusion of investigation and any subsequent judicial proceedings” the command stated.
