Sitting On Strangers’ Laps

Parents have been advised to caution their daughters against sitting on strangers’ laps.

The advice is coming from Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, a fallout of the hearing of a case of sexual defilement of a 10 year old girl.

“Children ought not to sit on laps of strangers as we have dirty men, so also dirty women.

The court today, heard the case of a 10 year old girl on her way to school who stopped a commercial bus but could not find a sitting space,

She had however, to accept the offer of a “good Samaritan” who was already seated in the bus, to be lapped, and that was how things went awry.

The occupants of the bus were shocked to hear the shout of the girl, midway into the journey.

Upon enquiry, she just flatly told them that the so-called Good Samaritan, had done the unthinkable, suddenly inserting his finger into her vagina.

A medical examination of the girl also established beyond every reasonable doubt the allegation that the accused, a clearing and forwarding agent, identified as Opeyemi Olasehan, actually violated her through finger insertion.

Whereas the defendant denied the allegation, his statement and evidence though accepted as exhibits were described as contradictory.

On the other hand, Justice Soladoye reportedly accepted the testimony of the survivor as compelling finding the defendant guilty; he was thereby sentenced to life imprisonment.
