Nottingham Forest Appeal 4-Point Deduction PSR Breach

The Premier League’s decision to punish Nottingham Forest four points will be appealed, the club has said in a direct statement.

Nottingham Forest has filed an official appeal in an attempt to overturn the four-point penalty it received for violating the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Due to the punishment, the team fell into the relegation zone; they have now confirmed in a statement that they intend to file an appeal.

A club statement read: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that it has today lodged an appeal against the four point sanction imposed by the Commission in relation to the Club’s breach of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club will not be making any further statement at this time.”

Although it is unclear if Nottingham Forest’s move will be effective, they should be mindful that Everton had a 10-point deduction lowered to six after an appeal. The struggle to stay in the English Premier League this season will probably be greatly impacted by the eventual judgement about Forest’s punishment. At the moment, Forest is in eighteenth place, four points behind Everton in sixteenth place and one point below Luton Town. The Toffees risk falling farther down the league if they receive a second point deduction.

Nottingham Forest will play Crystal Palace at the City Ground on Saturday to resume play following the international break.
