Nigeria Born US Congressman Set To Visit Nigeria Monday

Nigeria Born US Congressman

All is now set for Nigerian born US congressman, Dr Oye Owolewa to visit his fatherland, come Monday.

Owolewa, an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party, shadow representative of the United States House of Representatives for District of Columbia, and is expected via the Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin.

Spokesman for the family, Olayinka Owolewa issued a statement to the effect on Saturday.

He said Dr Owolewa, 34, and a pharmacist, would be received by the governor, AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq.

He is expected to later proceed to his town, Omu-Aran, where he would be received by Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti.

Dr Owolewa would thereafter be hosted by Omu-Aran Development Association (ODA), on Tuesday in Omu-Aran.

He was elected to the United States Congress in 2020, becoming the first Nigerian to be elected as US congressman.

Sharing the news on his Facebook page then, he had said:  “Good morning. Looks like we did it! I want to thank everyone, from family and close friends to DC residents. Because of your contributions and sacrifices, I stand before you as America’s first Nigerian-American congressman.

“In this role, I’m going to fight for DC statehood and bring our values to the lawmaking process. While today is a day for some celebration, the hard work also follows. Again, thanks so much for everything. I wouldn’t be here without you all.”

Nigeria Born US Congressman holds a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Pharmacy from the North-Eastern University, Boston.

He contested the election on the platform of the Democratic Party as a ‘shadow’ (non-voting) House of Representative member out of the District of Columbia (DC).

Earlier in 2019, he had participated in the historic March 2019 Lobby Day, which resulted in a majority of the House, supporting DC Statehood, for the first time in American history.

Nigeria Born US Congressman was equally active in Annapolis, where he joined the efforts to end Big Money Politics’ impact on lawmaking.

He has since become an inspiration for Nigerian youths on how a positively lived life could bring about great transformations and honour to self and fatherland.
