Newcastle To Sign Tottemham Midfielder Hojbjerg On Loan

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tottenham midfielder, is apparently being considered for a loan move by Newcastle United.

The Spurs midfielder has made 22 appearances so far this season but just six of those have been starts. Now, according to Newcastle publication, The Chronicle, a move that has been ‘bubbling under the surface’ is Hojbjerg joining Eddie Howe’s men on loan. Whether that happens, however, remains to be seen.

In terms of midfield depth, Newcastle lacks players like Joelinton, Joe Willock, and Elliot Anderson, while Sandro Tonali is serving a suspension for violating the terms of his gambling ban. Hojbjerg is ranked behind Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur at Tottenham. A loan move may also be in the works since Newcastle’s CEO, Darren Eales, stated that the team might have to sell some of its biggest players in order to go by financial fair play regulations.

Hojbjerg signed for Spurs in 2020 for £15 million from Southampton and defender Kyle Walker-Peters went in the opposite direction. The 28-year-old Danish international has since gone onto play 165 times for the north London club, scoring 10 goals in the process.

The January transfer window closes at midnight on February 1st, thus if a deal is reached, the two teams have until then to complete this transaction. On the pitch, Newcastle plays Fulham in the FA Cup the next day, while Tottenham hosts Manchester City in the fourth round on Friday.
