A man almost killed himself on Thursday, over a N2m failed visa deal, but he lives to nurse the emotional trauma and scar he has inflicted on himself.
In fact, it would have been a different story altogether, had the men of the Kano State Fire Service not arrived there timely.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, said in a statement issued in Kano that men of the service were able to rescue the victim, 37-year-old Saifillahi Rabiu.
He stated that the incident happened on Thursday morning at State Road, Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano.
“We received a distress call at about 10:07 a.m. from the Ministry of Works and Housing, Kano state, about a suicide attempt by hanging on a tree.
“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our fire fighting vehicle to the scene at 10:10 a.m,” he stated.
Providing further detail on the N2m failed Visa Deal, the statement said Rabiu, a resident of Semegu Quarters, resorted to taking his own life because he could not refund those he tried to assist in obtaining a travel Visa.

“During interrogation, we gathered that Rabiu connected some people to those that process travel visas to foreign countries, which was successful.
“Those he tried to help, however, rejected the visa, saying it was not the type they paid for and demanded for a refund of their money already paid to the processors.
“We reliably gathered that he was able to raise half-a-million naira only.
“But pressure and threats from the people he wanted to assist made him to try to take his own life,” the PRO added.
For some time now, there has been an upsurge in Nigerians seeking to leave the county, citing the challenging economy in the country.
the latest case surrounding the N2m failed Visa Deal is one in the many unreported cases occurring in the country, and it has heightened the call on government to make the Nigerian environment friendly for citizens.

This is even as Rabiu was rescued alive and handed over to Zaharaddini of Farm Centre Police Division for further action.
