The Fortunes of the Naira to the Pound Sterling as well as the exchange rate of the Naira to the Dollar continues to engender interest, this 5th day of the New Year 2026.

Incidentally, its fortunes continue to be one of volatility against the two leading national currencies of the world.

This is the case in both the official and black market windows.

​The Pound Sterling was dominant at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), averaging 1,936.43 to the Naira.

Data from NFEM shows the former maintaining a steady and more impressive exchange rate, from a low of 1,927.43 NGN and a peak of 1,937.56 to the Naira.

​Parallel (Black) Market Update

​It was even more telling at the parallel market, commonly referred to as the black market, where the currency was bought at about 2,150 NGN and sold between 2,210 NGN and 2,235 NGN.

In the case of the exchange of the Naira to Dollar, the Nigerian Naira began with a promise early in the day.

At the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the official the national currency is trading at an average of 1,441.85 per US Dollar.

It is as against the about 1,437.10 it traded earlier in the day.

Its fortunes were however better at the black market where its exchange rate value hovered between 1,455 and 1,465 across various stations of the parallel market.

Both the Naira to Pound Sterling and Naira to Dollar exchange rate as at today, have remained very instructive, the 5th day of year 20206.
