N10bn CCTV Cameras: No More Hiding Place For Criminals

With a N10 billion allocation for installation of high-tech Close Circuit Television, CCTV cameras, there might indeed be no more hiding place for criminals in the state.

The ambitious security allocation is part of the budge the Enugu State Government has proposed for 2025 and it is to ensure the installation of the CCTV cameras at strategic locations.

These include bus stops, junctions in high-density areas, and major highways.

The government says it is to enhance security and improve the overall safety of the state, positioning it as a prime destination for investors and residents.

The executive has proposed a total budget of N971.08 billion, out of which N837.94 billion will be allocated to capital expenditure, while N133.14 billion will go toward recurrent expenditure.

The Commissioner for Budget and Planning Chief Chris-Roberts Ozongwu, says N10 billion-worth CCTV security cameras are equipped with advanced technology and searchlights, and would be linked to a centralised monitoring system for effective security coordination.

“The latest technology-backed up security system is meant to make the state safe and secured, thus making Enugu State the number one destination for net worth Nigerians and foreign investors to do business and live peacefully,” Ozongwu said.

Underscoring the importance of prioriting security in the state, he said it is aimed at putting in place an enabling environment for economic growth.

Other items of importance are the N5 billion for the procurement of official and security vehicles, to complement the existing fleet of over 100 security vehicles in the state.

N1 billion is for the upgrading and equipping the Enugu State Security Outfit, which would involve the training and retraining of security personnel as well as the procurement of vehicles for enhanced security monitoring.

N52.5 billion would be spent on clearing and developing 100,000 hectares of land for three Special Crop Processing Zones; N1 billion would be tailored to revamping the state’s tractor leasing company while N2 billion in constructing farm estates across the state.
