Medical Services jeorpadised After Explosion Hits General Hospital

An early morning attack, has left medical services in jeopardy at the General Hospital in Bagudo Kebbi State, and panic all around town.

Though there is no report of death already, but the police which confirmed the blast has also moved in to forestall negative aftereffects.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, has issued a statement on the explosion, assuring that the situation was under control.

He said a joint team of police officers, soldiers and vigilante operatives, has cordoned off the hospital premises, while experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit were deployed to examine the scene.

The blast affected one of the buildings within the staff quarters but all occupants were evacuated before the explosion, resulting in no casualties.

The Commissioner of Police had ordered the deployment of additional tactical units to the area to ensure continued peace and to reassure residents, he stated.

However, the associated fear may hinder the effective provision of medical services, especially given the rampant cases of attacks of innocent persons in the North-east region of the country.
