Man City Outcast Kalvin Phillips Hints At January Transfer Amid Bayern Interest

Kalvin Phillips has hinted at a move away from Manchester City in the January transfer window amid interest from Bayern Munich.

The midfielder struggled to get consistent playing time under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, making just three substitute appearances for City in the Premier League so far this season. However, Gareth Southgate gave him a start in England’s 3-1 Euro 2024 qualification victory against Italy.

However, Phillips admitted that he needs to play more if he is to keep his place in the England starting XI and revealed that he will be assessing his future in the next few months ahead of 2024.

“I know that I need to be playing games and competing every weekend,” he told reporters. “I’m going to have to make a decision on [my future] over the next months. He [Gareth Southgate] just says that for me to keep my spot I have to be playing games. That’s what I want to do. I have agreed with Gareth on that.”

According to rumours, Bayern has their eye on Phillips and might make a January offer for the midfielder, who moved from City to Bayern for £45 million ($55 million) in July 2022. The midfielder is reportedly a favourite of Thomas Tuchel, who may advocate for a brief loan agreement.

City was prepared to sell him in the summer, but the player insisted on remaining at the Etihad, so they will likely let him go if they receive a good offer.

After a fruitful international break, Phillips will return to Manchester City with the hopes of impressing Guardiola in practise before Saturday’s Premier League match against Brighton.
