Liverpool Forward Luis Diaz Makes First Public Statement Since Kidnapping Of His Father 

Liverpool forward, Luis Diaz shared an Instagram story advertising a march for his kidnapped father in his first public statement on the ordeal.

The post called for the “whole community” of Diaz’s native Barranca, Colombia to come together and march for his father Luis Manuel and “free him now”.

Supporters gathered in the streets on Tuesday afternoon, local time, waving white balloons and demanding for Luis Manuel’s release.

After the news of his parents’ abduction surfaced on Sunday, Diaz made his first public remarks with the re-posting of the advertising.

It is believed that four armed men riding motorbikes abducted Luis Manuel and Diaz’s mother, Cilenis Marulanda, when they were out purchasing watermelons. Luis Manuel’s whereabouts are still unknown, although Marulanda was later set free.

New worries that Diaz’s father might not be in Colombia have been raised by the most recent information from that nation.

As patrol searches continue over the neighbouring Perija mountain range, police are reportedly investigating the possibility that Luis Manuel may have been smuggled into Venezuela over the border, according to The Daily Mail.

However, Colombia’s national police director General William Salamanca – who joined the search on Monday – has quelled notions that Diaz’s father may be located in Venezuela due to the difficulty of crossing said range.

Given the ongoing situation, Diaz was absent from Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The Colombian was honoured by Diogo Jota during the match with a touching celebration tribute, who also spoke on the player’s “unimaginable” situation.
