Lagos Taskforce Launches Anti-Crime Patrol Unit To Combat Criminality

The Lagos State Taskforce has formally launched a dedicated Anti-Crime Patrol Unit as part of renewed efforts to combat criminal activities and environmental violators across the state.

Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, said the establishment of the unit became imperative to flush out criminal elements who pose serious security threats to residents and visitors within the State.

Akerele who spoke today at the Headquarters of the Agency in Bolade, Oshodi, said the newly launched unit will function as a standby and sharp response team, with a mandate to arrest and ensure the prosecution of offenders involved in activities such as

1. drug peddling
2. street urchinism
3. activities of area boys popularly known as “Omotaku”
4. activities at criminal black spots
5. littering of the environment
6. attacks on government officials on lawful duty
7. quackery
8. “one-chance” robbery activities, and other special offences.

CSP Akerele emphasised that the taskforce remains resolute in its commitment to rid Lagos State of criminality, stressing that the Agency will intensify surveillance, patrols, and enforcement operations across all identified flashpoints.

“We will be all out to stamp out criminal activities in the State this year. No stone will be left unturned to compel criminals to desist from their acts or relocate from Lagos State,” the Chairman declared.

The Lagos State Taskforce reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information that will aid ongoing security and environmental operations.

The round-the-clock Anti-Crime Patrol Unit represents a strategic initiative of the Agency, designed to proactively detect, deter, and neutralize criminal intent before it escalates into a threat to public safety, a release by the Director, Public Affairs of the agency, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem stated.
