Lagos Records 30 Collapse Buildings, 337 Road Accidents In 7 Months

337 traffic accidents and at least 30 building collapses were reported in Lagos State between January and July 2022, according to statistics made public by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, yesterday.

Just 24 hours after a seven-story building under construction on Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru Road, Oniru Estate, in the state’s Victoria Island region collapsed, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared Dr. Idris Salako’s resignation as his Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development. To lessen the incidence of building collapses in the state, this was done.

The most recent information was revealed Tuesday by the agency’s permanent secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, and was found in a thorough record every occurrence that occurred within the time period under examination.

Data show that Alimosho Council Area accounted for the majority of the 973 emergency cases that were reported throughout the metropolis.

The number of recorded building collapse incidents was 24, including six partial collapses and one imminent collapse.

Also, January had the most reported emergency situations, while April had the fewest.

The number of events then decreased to 155 in February before increasing to 160 and 140 in May and July, respectively.

Out of the 20 recognized councils, Alimosho recorded the most cases with 145, and Badagry the least with just two emergency situations, along with respective LCDAs.

Furthermore, throughout the time under consideration, 337 traffic accidents were reported in total.

The following were recorded from the total: 303, 29, and 45 for the truck, fell tanker, and trailer.

During the time period under consideration, there were 103 cases of fire catastrophes, 93 cases of outbreak, 2 cases of trucks, and 8 cases of vehicles, respectively.
