In Soup: Police Arrests Organiser Of Festival Where Women Were Sexually Assaulted

The organiser of a festival where women were allegedly sexually assaulted may have landed in hot soup: he has been arrested by the police.

The Delta State Police Command arrested him alongside the community head and three others, from Oramudu quarters in Ozoro, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Bright Edafe, has stated.

In an X today, the police identified the organiser and community head as Chief Omorede Sunday , saying he had been taken in alongside four other suspects from Oramudu quarters in Ozoro.

“The community head and chief organiser of the event, one Chief Omorede Sunday and four other suspects from Oramudu quarters in Ozoro have been arrested.

“The CP has ordered that they should be transferred to State CID with immediate effect. The CP vows that anyone involved will be arrested and brought to justice,” he wrote.

Though the incident happened yesterday March 19, during the annual festival, during which women were allegedly expected to remain indoors, the alleged magnitude of the abuse has however attracted attention of the authorities.

Viral videos showed men groping ladies, amidst other forms of molestation.

Apparently, the traditional rule that women should remain indoors while the festival lasted had emboldened the culprit, but there is every implication that they have now landed themselves in big trouble.

“No custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens”, Edafe has said, indicating the readiness of the authorities to prosecute culprits.
