Ikeja Electric Reacts To Report Linking Its Staff To Cable Vandalism

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Corporation (Ikeja Electric) has reacted to social media reports linking its staff to vandalisation of electricity cables.

In the reaction dated March 21, 2025, and signed by Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications, the company described the insinuation as incorrect, asserting that its staff members do not engage in cable vandalism.

Identifying the individuals in question as employees of Arise Business Link, Ikeja Electric, in the release, stated that a company engaged by Ikeja electric for debt recovery operations were currently being interrogated by the Lagos State Police command to gather more information about their activities, possible accomplices and other relevant details to aid their prosecution.

“Earlier this year, we made a public appeal to community members, security agencies and traditional institutions to assist in combating vandalism and energy theft by reporting suspicious activities.

“The collaboration with local security groups and communities such as Lawson-Okeira in Ojodu and Epe has been instrumental in tackling these crimes.

Just weeks ago, vandals along the Epe corridor were apprehended and now another group has been caught”, he stated in the release.

Commending the Lagos State government, security agencies, local communities, traditional rulers and stakeholders for their unwavering support in the fight against these criminal activities, he restated the company’s zero tolerance policy towards vandalism, energy theft, and safety infractions.

“These illegal activities not only disrupt our supply but also lead to significant financial losses due to infrastructure replacement and revenue shortfalls”, the release stated.
