‘I Stopped Breathing For A While’ – Arsenal Legend Not Convinced By Raya

Arsenal legendary icon, Thierry Henry admitted that he was tense during the final minutes of Champions League clash against Sevilla.

Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus’ goals gave the Gunners the advantage over Sevilla in a thrilling Champions League match on Tuesday. Thierry Henry, a former Arsenal legend, was not pleased with the performance of custodian David Raya, joking that at one point he “stopped breathing” out of nervousness, despite the club earning a critical away victory in Spain.

Following the game, Henry spoke with CBS Sports (via Mirror) and stated: “Is it a save? I mean, I stopped breathing for a little while. That’s how it was in the last five, six minutes which I can understand away from home, we talked about it off air that it’s a tough place to go and win or play Sevilla. I just thought at times we were inviting too many crosses and when I saw Raya coming to save that I got a bit scared but we got our luck this time, we got lucky.”

Mikel Arteta has recently made Raya, who came to the north London club on loan from Brentford in the summer, his first choice. However, during the team’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City, Raya’s performance was first questioned. He had a forgettable game against Chelsea the previous Saturday, and against Sevilla, he appeared unsteady at moments once more.

On Saturday, Arsenal will play Sheffield United in the Premier League.
