How Pilot Errors At Airshow Led To Disaster

Pilot errors have made an air show, staged to provide an enjoyable spectacle for watchers to end in disaster.

It resulted in a collision between a fighter pilot and a bomber, not only costing about six lives, but also huge material losses

A mailonline report indicate fears that the fighter pilot may not have seen the bomber, leading to the collision.

The mid-air collision has thus changed the narrative of the Wings Over Dallas airshow which was staged yesterday.

Allied Pilots Association have already confirmed that Captains Terry Barker and Len Root, who are both part of the B-17 Texas Raiders team Six crew members are feared to be dead.

The report citing videos on the incident, said the B-17 encroached below the P-63 as the Kingcobra was banking right, and was thus unprepared for the resultant crash.

The Kingcobra which is larger, upon colliding with the bomber, tore it apart, itself split in half

“A B-17 bomber appeared to stray into the blindspot of a P-63 Kingcorbra as the historic World War II-era planes collided in midair outside of Dallas on Saturday”, the mailonline report said.

“Six people are feared dead at the Wings Over Dallas event when the P-63, seemingly unable to spot the B-17 below it, crashed into the large bomber, sending debris flying and igniting a fire nearby”.

Pilot Errors -2 The report which quotes Jason Evans, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman, telling a local medium that the crash occurred at around 1.30pm above the Dallas Executive Airport, added that, the front of the B-17 split off from its rears as its wings caught on fire and it spiraled to the ground nearby.

It was not clear at the time of filing in the report, the exact number of casualties, but there were concerns the heavy impact could have left far more damages that immediately ascertained.

OF interest is that the accident involved what has been described as “rare World War II-era planes”.

The Eagle reports that air shows are a common phenomenon when countries desire to showcase their arsenal of air planes.

Such an exhibition, usually see the participating air craft do stunts and other aerobatics displays.

A Wikipedia entry mentions the Ramstein air show disaster occurred, which occurred on Sunday, 28 August 1988 during the Flugtag ’88 airshow at USAF Ramstein Air Base near Kaiserslautern, West Germany, as the worst in history.
