A thirty six year old man has narrated how a hospital removed vital organs from his baby after the child brought to their care died in the hospital.
The man who identified himself as Promise John, from Akwa Ibom lives in Ubulu-Okiti, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
He said the child was declared dead on Sunday night at the hospital by the doctor on duty, and that he wanted to take the body away that night only for the hospital to refuse him.
Their reason he said, was that they said he would have e balance of the hospital bills.
“They said they had allowed a lot of people to go like that in the past with a promise that they would return to pay but they never did.
“So, they said they wouldn’t let me take the body away”, John said.
He said when he returned on Monday to check, it was a different thing he saw.
According to him, someone had allegedly cut off the face, removed the eyes and also removed one side of the baby.
John said when he asked the nurse what happened, she allegedly denied any knowledge of what transpired.
“The nurse took photographs of the body and then called her colleagues to arrange the body.
“I was confused. I took the body and went to show it to my family. We later took it to the police station.
He said when he returned to the hospital with the police later that the doctor was no where to be found, making the police to arrest three nurses, the one on duty and two others.
Up till the moment of the interview, he reported that the doctor had not been seen.
“The baby was born on September 27, 2022. He was born in another hospital but because he was diagnosed with jaundice, we were referred to Asaba Specialist Hospital, but on getting there, they told us they didn’t have space. And that was how we were again referred to this particular hospital where the baby died.”
