HOW DEATH OF BUS DRIVER CAUSED TENSION AT IGANDO
BY TOYOSI OLADIPUPO
Things appear to have returned to normal in the Igando area of Lagos, following the death of a commercial bus driver, who trying to resist arrest by members of a task force team commonly referred to as Dragon in the area.
The team had arrested a number of drivers at Iyana Ipapja and were driving towards Igando possibly for more arrests but at this point, the victim whose name we could not immediately ascertain, refused further movement.
It was in the process that he was shot, leading to a free for all between the task force team and the commercial drivers who were obviously angry at the operations of the task force team.
The Eagle correspondent was told that the task force team had made it a point of duty to operate in the area, most times extorting the people, a development that had irked them.
As at the time of the last incident, the vehicle which the task force team used was filled with arrested people, many of them innocent passersby.
Ïf there is anything that this task force people are supposed to be doing, it is to help in managing traffic and not cause mayhem”, , said one elderly man by the scene.
He said what happened that day was a reflection of the level of lawlessness in the country, advising the authorities to try and put an end to it.
Our investigations shows that the volatile nature of the area is sufficient reason for the problem to be nipped in the bud, but it does not appear the authorities are thinking in the direction.
This is reflected by the flagrant manner in which the task force has continued to operate.
