‘How Daddy GO Prayed For Me, And I Won Reelection’

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has recalled how the prayers of Daddy GO, helped him to wind a second term of office in the last elections.

Daddy GO, is the way faithful within the fold of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) call their General Overseer., Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.

Obaseki made the recall yesterday  during the Holy Ghost congress of the church held at its grounds along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

 “When it looked impossible and when men rose, He (God) came out to say that He is God and only He has the power.

“About the time when the crisis started a year ago, I came to the (RCCG) camp with my wife and met Daddy G.O.”, a report in the Punch reports the governor as stating.

Obaseki said after explaining his political challenges, Adeboye told him, “My son, it is well. Don’t be afraid, you will overcome and you will win.”

The governor said he went back to meet the cleric shortly before the September 19 Edo State governorship election.

He added, “A few months before the election, I came again to see him (Adeboye) and he prayed for me and with me and he said, ‘It will be well.’”

The Eagle can recall that the runup to the election was challenging given that the former governor of the state, and erstwhile national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was opposed to Obaseki’s second term.

Obaseki was at daggers-drawn with Oshiomhole, over his re-election bid, a feud that resulted in  led to factionalization of the APC in Edo to two camps.

While the Obaseki camp favoured indirect primary, the camp loyal to Oshiomhole voted for direct primary as approved by the National Working Committee, NWC, of the APC.

On Sunday, Governor Obaseki and seven other APC governors met National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju the faceoff led to a lot of tension, lobbies and allegations with each side seeking an upper hand.

At the back of the mind of the Obaseki camp, was that, it was direct primary that the camp lo loyal to Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu used to checkmate the second term ambition of  Akinwunmi Ambode.
