Gunmen kill Gov. Okowa’s aide in Uvwie, Delta State

There is tension in the Uvwie local council area of Delta state and within government quarters following the killing of Mr Lawrence Ijeh who was an aide of Governor IFeanyi Okowa.

Ijeh, fondly called Ngozi, meaning Blessing, was allegedly been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Ekpan community, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta.

He was Special Assistant on Youth Development to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, and his shooting to death occurred on Friday night inside his Toyota Camry Car with Registration Number: EFR 965 SN in Ekpan.

The incident has caused serious tension in the community as security operative had taken over the area to maintain law and order.

Preparations for Saturday’s presidential elections were in top gear in the area, that no one expected the killling.

But as the news broke, the level of tension went rooftops.

The Eagle heard from reliable sources that Ngozi had been rumoured to be an ex-convict before he was appointed as aide to Gov. Okowa, but it was not clear whether he had any disagreements in that connection that may have led to his death.

In fact, our reporter was told that Ngozi was regarded as a notorious hitman for a principle that was not immediately clear.

the riddle had been further worsened by the lingering rivalry between the  two leading political parties in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressive Congress (APC) in Uvwie.

However, It was learnt that Ngozi was ambushed by his assailants while returning from an outing with his girlfriend Friday night.

He was repeatedly shot on his chest and head as the hoodlums were said to have waited until their target gave up the ghost before leaving.

Mr Innocent Akpotedja-Adjenughure, the Ekpan Community Chairman, in a text message said, “yes, Ngozi was assassinated yesterday, no details yet,” he said.

The Acting Police Public Relations (PPRO), Delta Command  ASP Oriseweje Chuks when contacted said,”I am still investigating the matter, let me reach the DPO in Ekpan and get back to you.”

Similarly, the Delta Commissioner for Information Mr Patrick Ukah and the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Okowa, Mr Charles Aniagwu said they were yet to get details on the development.
