Governor Fires All Commissioners, Directs Them To Hand Over Govt Properties

All commissioners under Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, have been fired, and directed to hand over all government properties under their custody.

This follows the immediate the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council as approved by the governor.

Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, in a statement today said the decision is to provide an enabling environment for any member of the council who may wish to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections.

The governor also directed the affected commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to the Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026.

He also expressed appreciation to the sacked commissioners for their dedication, commitment, and invaluable contributions to the development and service of the people of Borno State.

Our correspondent reports Governor Zulum, early in the year dismissed speculation about a preferred successor or favoured candidates within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I have no candidate for any position, and I do not know who will succeed me”, he said during a crucial APC stakeholders’ meeting in Maiduguri.

“I have entrusted the choice of leaders to Almighty Allah, in line with the democratic will of party members and the people of Borno State,” the governor added while warning party leaders and members against spreading rumours capable of sowing division within the party.
He stated his commitment to a fair, transparent and just process in the election of party officials in the state.
