Glitz, Glamour At Rotn. Akubuo’s Investiture As District 9110 President

It was a splash of glitz and glamour on Saturday, in Egbe town, Lagos, as  Rotn.Calista Ifeyinwa Akubuo’s investiture as first female President, Rotary Club Of Egbe District 9110 took place.

She is styled “ the Change maker”,  being the 19th president of the club, and the first female ever to lead it.

Expectedly, Rotarians came from far and near to the Komolafe Event Centre, Laisu, Egbe Lagos Lagos, where the grand event amidst the klieglights took place.

In her inaugural speech, Rotn. Akubuo affirmed the historic nature of the day’s event, and the aptness of the theme: “Service to change lives” in Rotary’s  2020-2022 calendar.

“I was elected as the First Female President on October 27th, 2019, that is about 23 months ago to assume themantle of leadership of Rotary Club of Egbe on the 1st of July 2021. That is the uniqueness of succession plan you can only find in Rotary. My successor has been elected in October 2020. His own successor will be elected next month. That is Rotary for you! You have two years to plan for one-year tenure”.

Asserting that the investiture placed on the members, enormous responsibility of providing purposeful and dynamic leadership , she added that the wealth of experience possessed by the members would come handy in the strive to take Rotary Egbe to an enviable level.

“At this point, it is important we all work together as one committed invisible family and continue to do what we know now to do best, serving humanity.

“Installation ceremony in Rotary is for a clear and well-defined purpose: to raise fund for various humanitarian service projects planned for the year in the course of this event. Please, support us to reach out to more vulnerable people in our communities”, she pleaded.

In a welcome address earlier, the Chairman of the Installation Committee, Rotn Babatunde Taofik Alayande, had described the occasion as historic, given especially that Rotn Calista was the Chairperson of his own installation Committee.

14,  2019. She was also my Vice President during 2019/2020 Rotary year. Today, I am not only the Chairman of her installation Committee, I am also her Vice President…The lesson here for all of us, is simple, whatever assignment is given to you, do it properly ..”.

The event also featured two guest speakers: Mr. Chris Ohwo spoke on Voluntary Mentorship as Panacea for youth development and re-orientation, underscoring the importance of guiding youths to preparing to life’s challenges, while Dr Child Okpaluba tackled the issue of Depression, especially how to manage it.

Born on Dec. 4, 1972 into the family of Mr and Mrs Amajioyi of Eziama Obairi in Nkwere Local Government of Imo State, Rotn. Akubuo attended the University of Jos for her first degree and graduated  with flying colors in Educational Administration. She later attended the University of Lagos where she bagged an M.sc (ED) in Educational Administration, and MBA in Marketing.

She started her sojourn into the corporate world with IGI Insurance as a marketer, later joining now defunct Fortune Bank also as a marketer. She late moved to the  Information Technology sector, where she worked with Data Processing Management System Limited (DPMS) all in Lagos.

Diligent in her endeavours as an employee, she overime, garnered sufficient experience to float her own business concerns. Among the companies she midwifed are Casanthonio  Nigeria limited and Treasuremirth, Nigeria limited in distributorship partnershp with big FMCGs manufacturers like Nestle, PZ, flour Mills, Olam Group, Honeywell, Checkers, caraway, Laba foods, Elkris and Dangote.

Driven by humanitarian passion, Rotn. Akubuo was inducted as a Rotarian in  2018, and had since not looked back.  This has made her serve in various capacities among which are: Chairperson, Rotary Club of Egbe foundation dinner night 2018; member, Membership Committee 2018; Chairperson, Installation committee 2019 and Vice President,  2019.

Rotn. Akubuo is a serial Awards’ winner, and has in her vaults of recognitions, humanitarian service award- Rotary Club of Festac Town; Youth Role Model award, Rotary District 9110 as well as DEWEF Ambassador 2020

Already, Rotn. Akubuo has drawn up an impressible project table for Rotary Club of Egbe, and these include provision of financial grants to 70 petty traders; renovation of two primary health centres  and donation of medical equipment;  renovation of  two blocks  of classrooms at Oke Afa Junior High School, as well as diligent promotion of peace in her constituency through a seminar on peace and conflict resolution as well as a  sensitisation forum against drugs for secondary students
