Gallagher Reveals Key Pochettino Change In Crystal Palace Comeback Win

Conor Gallagher gave Mauricio Pochettino credit for the tactical adjustment that enabled Chelsea to overcome Crystal Palace on Monday, coming back from behind.

At Selhurst Park, Chelsea had originally trailed by a Jefferson Lerma screamer. However, Gallagher immediately tied the score after the break before giving the Blues the lead in stoppage time. Even later, Enzo Fernandez scored it 3-1, and Gallagher was interviewed by Sky Sports afterwards.

Chelsea had originally fallen behind to a Jefferson Lerma screamer at Selhurst Park. But Gallagher equalised straight after half-time, before scoring a decisive second for the Blues in stoppage time. Enzo Fernandez made it 3-1 even later, with Gallagher interviewed by Sky Sports afterwards.

This season, Gallagher is leaving his stamp on Chelsea in a manner that was not possible during the 2022–2023 season, when he started less than half of the team’s games. The 24-year-old has started every Chelsea Premier League game so far in 2023–24, including captaining the team before to Ben Chilwell’s injury comeback. Even though supporters are more accustomed to seeing Gallagher a little deeper, Pochettino has recently employed him as a “number 10.”

On his positional preference, he added: “I’ve played in a number of positions this season, more so holding midfield. I’m happy to play anywhere for the manager. I’m happy wherever I play. No problem.”

Chelsea must build on their recent winning streak of two games—the FA Cup replay success against Aston Villa midweek and the victory over Palace—because an ugly home loss to Wolves still stings. This is especially significant since, the following weekend, following the Premier League matchup with Manchester City, Liverpool will play in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, providing Pochettino with his first major trophy win as manager.
