Explained: Why Bayern Are Now Unlikely To Rehire Flick

Bayern Munich appears to have reached yet another dead end, this time with Hansi Flick, as they search for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel this summer.

Bayern went to the previous coach, who guided them to the sextuple, after being turned down repeatedly by coach like Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick. Although everything appeared to point to Flick replacing Tuchel at Allianz Arena, reports from Kicker [via Spox] indicate that the Bavarian team is no longer considering Flick’s services.

As per the report, Bayern are unsure if Flick will be able to instil the same kind of daredevil mindset into his players as he had done during his earlier stint with the Bavarians. The top brass are also unhappy with the kind of image Flick had drawn of himself as Germany’s coach in the 2022 World Cup documentary ‘All or Nothing: The German National Team in Qatar’.

Flick is reportedly interested in taking over as manager of Bayern Munich, and the two sides have already had negotiations. It was also rumoured that Flick would have assistance coaches in the dugout in the form of former Munich goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic and Germany great Miroslav Klose if he were to take over this summer.

It will be necessary for the team to start looking for a new manager if they decide against signing Flick this summer. Others have brought forward names like Erik ten Hag and Roberto De Zerbi, but it’s not clear how far those discussions have progressed, if they have at all.
