Following Manchester City’s treble-winning performance, Erling Haaland was awarded the Gerd Muller Trophy at the Ballon d’Or 2023 occasion.

Haaland won the award for the highest-scoring male player in 2022/23, thanks to the 56 goals he bagged for City and Norway. The 23-year-old narrowly pipped Kylian Mbappe to the prize, after the Frenchman scored 55 times for Paris Saint-Germain and France.

Haaland moved from Borussia Dortmund to City in the summer of 2022 for £51 million ($62 million), and he had a record-breaking first season there. The striker broke the previous record of 34 goals for the most goals scored in a single Premier League campaign with 36 league goals. He netted 52 goals in 53 games in all competitions, helping Pep Guardiola’s team win the league, FA Cup, and Champions League.

Haaland scored two goals as City defeated the neighbours 3-0. With his last strike against Manchester United on Sunday, he now has 11 goals in 10 league games this season, putting him back in the running for the Premier League Golden Boot.
