Epe’s Devt Status – We Are Not Complaining, Says Oba Shefiu Adewale

The Olu of Epe, HRM Oba Shefiu Adewale, has said that he and his people are not complaining about the state of development in the division.

Instead, he said they appreciate the fact that development was an ongoing thing and that the division would get all its due of the state government’s development initiatives at due time.

The Eagle reports that the Oba made these clarifications in the course of interactions with a team of journalists for the ongoing Epe Kayokayo.

Asked if he was satisfied with the state government in terms of developing Epe, the Oba said he was not complaining.

Instead, he expressed optimism about the needed development getting to the region, especially given that the area had potentials.

He Epe had been blessed naturally in the areas that attune themselves to development mentioning these to include a lot of land, historical artifacts and massive water bodies.

 “W e are not complaining. We know that development is an ongoing thing. I only urge the state and federal government to direct attention to Epe and divert a lot of developments to the kingdom”, he said.

Oba Adewale who had with him, other members of the Olu Epe in council, had earlier used the opportunity to drum up support for Epe Kayokayo, an annual festival of the Epe people.

He told journalists that it the festival was indigenous to Epe people and has come to take its place in the itinerary of the people.

According to him, the cultural, religious advantages of the festival could not be quantified, and there was need to sustain the observances for future generations of the community,

It said sons and daughters of the area had begun to come home to partake of the celebrations.

Aside the Epe Kayakayo, there is also the Ebi festival, which the community also celebrates.

Highlights of the festival include Children activities, Youth Rally, Carnival Procession, Commemoration of Royal day and Musical performance.

There would also be a visitation to historical sites, empowerment of indigenes, Islamic and cultural competitions, scholarship award and raffle draw with a car as star price.
