Emirates Airlines Makes U-turn, Returns Lagos Operations

By Tolulope Oke

Emirates Airlines has stated that starting on September 11, 2022, it will resume operating flights to Lagos.

The airline made this disclosure yesterday in an email to its clients and travel companies.

Emirates had earlier said in a statement that it explored every option to address its ongoing issues with remitting money from Nigeria and had made significant efforts to start a conversation with the appropriate authorities in hopes of prompting their assistance in coming up with a workable solution. Regrettably, though, there had been no progress.

The statement in part reads: “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our customers, however the circumstances are beyond our control at this stage. We will be working to help impacted customers make alternative travel arrangements wherever possible.”

According to the International Air Transport Association, Emirates sent a letter five days after the federal government released $265 million to foreign airlines operating there to settle unpaid foreign airlines’ detained funds out of the $464 million owing to the airlines in Nigeria (IATA).

“We are pleased to inform you that effective from 11th September 2022, we will reinstate operations of our flights,” Emirates said.

“Inbound flights from Dubai to Lagos (EK783) and outbound flights from Lagos to Dubai (EK784) will recommence from Sunday, 11th September 2022.

“Lagos flights after 30th September, 2022 will be advised in due course,” the airline said
