Edo Election updates:  There is caution all around Edo State today as the gubernatorial election in the state gets underway.

This is even as security agencies have arrested two political thugs during an overnight raid, and also recovered weapons.

Information reaching The Eagle indicates that there is caution all around town amidst road blocks and armoured vehicles mounted by security personnel on strategic locations.

The election is expected to have rolled off from 8am today,

There were equally reports of stop and search activities, a pre-emptive measure against malpractice and violence of any kind.

Early risers were also cautious including commercial vehicle drivers who tried to make quick cash before the commencement of the polls.

The Eagle Edo Election Updates Desk reports the Nigeria Force Public Relations Officer (PRO) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, as saying an overnight raid on some locations led to the arrest of some political thugs.

The raid also led to the recovery of some dangerous weapons, including 3 cut-to-size locally made guns from the suspects.

“The Nigeria Police Force has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to curb electoral violence in Edo State with the arrest of two political thugs, namely: Edwin Obanor, 43-year-old and Audu Tajudeen, a 41-year-old Peoples Democratic Party member from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo.

“Acting on a tip-off that some individuals had been armed to cause mayhem and instability during the election on Saturday, the police operatives swooped into action and apprehended Obanor, a leader of an armed group, at Oredo Ward 4 at about 9pm and Audu Tajudeen at Igara Akoko, Edo, on the eve of the election.

Police, seeking to maintain law and order in the Edo election, mount a roadblock. Some suspects with dangerous weapons have already been arrested.

“Upon searching the bags in their possession, three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols were discovered on Obanor while one locally made gun was recovered from Tajudeen.”
