Bad News For Traders In Nine Lagos Markets

The fire raging

It is indeed bad news for Market traders, in nine Lagos markets including Dosumu, Nnamdi Azikwe, Moshalashi, Woro Pedro, Obanikoro Streets.
Others are: Ago Tawa, Idumagbo Avenue, Idumagbo , Ido – Oluwo and Oju Olobun Streets.
Thesy have been directed by the Lagos State government.to cease commercial activities with immediate effect
The closure follows the recent fire incident which occurred in the markets, consuming four buildings and other materials.
Although the move is to safeguard lives and property, while repair works go on, there is no doubt it will catch a lot of market traders unawares.
They and others who earn their daily living at the markets are likely to be destabilized for as long it takes the repair works to go on.

The Special Adviser to the state Governor on Central Business Distress, CBD, Mrs. Bola Olumegbon Lawal, announced closure of economic activities at the markets and environs, when she visited.
According to her, it is to forestall further endangering of lives and property in the markets, while efforts are made to put things back in order.
The Eagle reports that the fire, earlier in the day, led to the collapse of two buildings, affecting the others immensely.
A report quoted the Head of Public Education, Lagos State Fire Service, Amodu Sjakiru, as stating that Lagos State Fire Service personnel were currently at the scene to prevent further casualties.
