August 1 Protest: US Mission Issues Security Alert

The United States (US) mission in Nigeria has issues a security alert over the threatened August 1 nationwide protests.

Titled, ALERT: POTENTIAL NATIONWIDE PROTESTS, and published on its website, the US mission warned that based on past occurrences that the “protests may involve roadblocks, checkpoints, traffic congestion, and physical confrontations:, adding however that no specific times or locations have been identified for potential protests at this time.

Referencing from media reports, the US mission said the advised its citizens and others on precautions to take, saying these included monitor local media for updates, avoiding crowds and avoiding demonstrations.

It added: “Be aware of your surroundings, Review your personal security plans and keep your cell phone charged in case of emergency, Carry proper identification.

“The Consular Sections of Embassy Abuja and Consulate General Lagos will remain open during regular business hours and Consular services will be provided as scheduled”..
