ASUU Strike Paralyses Academic Activities In LASU

Full compliance at the Lagos State University (LASU), with the ongoing strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has paralysed academic activities at the the university

The Eagle investigations show that the strike directive had been total and comprehensive in the local chapter of the union.

Earlier reports had shown that indeed the strike action was fully endorsed by the academics.

NAN reports quotes Dr Adeolu Oyekan, Assistant Secretary, ASUU, LASU Chapter as promising of full compliance with strike directive within 48 hours after its congress.

Oyekan said that his members would continue with the indefinite strike by suspending academic activities in the campus, until further notice.

He said that ASUU’s monitoring team in the university campuses within Lagos had been going round its faculties to ensure total compliance and pick defaulters.

“There is full compliance of the strike in LASU at the moment. We have been going round since yesterday and observed compliance in all the faculties at the Ojo Campus.

“Feedback from our campuses in Epe and Ikeja are also positive and we do not expect any breach from our members,’’ he said.

A check by NAN correspondent at the Ojo Campus also revealed that academic activities in the university had been grounded, as no lecturer was seen on duty.

Meanwhile, NAN observed that some students of the institution were engaged in other activities within the campus.

NAN also reports that ASUU had on November 5 directed members of its union nationwide to begin an indefinite strike action over the non-implementation of the Memorandum of Action (MOA) signed with the Federal Government.

Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU National President, said that the strike would cover both the federal and state- owned universities.

Ogunyemi said all entreaties made to the Federal Government to honour the agreement with the union yielded no result and the union had no option than to begin an indefinite strike action.
