APC’s nationwide congress holds amidst different tales

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo attended the All Progressives Congress Ward Congress in Agungi, under Eti-Osa LGA, Lagos State, on Saturday, where he was received by party leaders in the area.

The nationwide ward congress of All Progressive Congress (APC) held across the country today, but it was different tales from different locations where the important polls held.

News monitored nationwide, shows that the exercise experienced hitches here and there, though it eventually came off the ground.

In Kaduna for example, our correspondent found that the exercise did not commence on time. As as 12 noon, the exercise was yet to commence at in Zaria and Sobongari Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Limancin-Kona, Kwarbai A, Kwarbai B, Kaura, Gyallesu, Kufena, Muchia, Chikaji, Jama’a, Samaru and Bomo wards among others had party faithful waiting but the exercise were yet to take off.

A party faithful was quoted as saying: “I am disappointed, I was here since 7:00a.m. thinking that they will start the election on time, so that we can finish and go about our normal daily businesses.

“APC should endeavour to prove that it is a party for positive change that will contemplate imposing party leadership on members.”

As at yesterday the various committees saddled with the responsibility of conducting the ward congress were seen hurrying out of the national Secretariat of the party in Abuja heading for the state of their postings.

Preparations for ward congresses in Rivers State were yesterday greeted with violence and protests as youth suspected to be members of the party stormed and looted the state secretariat located at the Old GRA, Port Harcourt.

THISDAY gathered that the uprising which started as a protest against perceived hijack of the congress process by a faction of the party degenerated into looting of the secretariat after the state executives of the party escaped from the secretariat for fear of being lynched.

The Publicity Secretary of Rivers State chapter of the APC, Chris Finebone, expressed dissatisfaction with the situation and said the police had made arrests, including Member Representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Chidi Wihioka.
