Another tragedy along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, this time over…

Another tragedy rocks the Lagos-Ibadan expressway with a confirmed report of at least 10 persons burnt to death due to a tanker explosion today, 20th October, 2022.

A total of 10 people were involved, according to Florence Okpe, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson in Ogun. All of them had suffered extensive burns.

According to Okpe, five vehicles were gutted by the inferno, a Mack truck registered as AKL198ZT; an Iveco truck with no registration number; a Mazda bus marked FFE361XB; an unregistered Howo truck, and the Mack tanker.

Okpe attributed the explosion to speeding, which she claimed caused the Iveco truck to lose control.

The truck was said to have hit the tanker, resulting in a fire outbreak due to leakage.

“The Mazda bus got engulfed in the spark of the fire,” Okpe said, saying the burnt bodies were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

She added that some burnt vehicles were towed off the road, “leaving the tankers for the fuel content to be transloaded.”

Moreso, She revealed that the burnt bodies were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu.

Okpe quoted the Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector Command, Ahmed Umar to have commiserated with the victims’ families after visiting the scene of the incident.

She also quoted Umar to have advised motorists to drive cautiously, obey traffic rules and regulations, and consider each other while driving.
