‘I Didn’t Accuse Any Party’: Seun Okinbaloye Clarifies 2027 Election Rigging Warning

Channels Television presenter, Seun Okinbaloye, has clarified his controversial warning that Nigeria’s 2027 general election is already being rigged, saying he did not accuse any political party, candidate or individual of manipulating the electoral process.

Okinbaloye gave the explanation on Sunday Politics after his earlier remarks during Friday’s edition of Politics Today generated reactions across the country.

He explained that his warning centred on concerns about the integrity of the voters’ register, particularly the alleged presence of fake registrations and questionable voter records ahead of the 2027 elections.

“In my warning, I didn’t name any political party, accuse any candidate, and identify any sponsor. I only said 2027 election is already being rigged through fake voter register,” he said.

Okinbaloye urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take urgent steps to review the voters’ register and address irregularities, including fake and AI-generated voter photographs, before the next general election.

His initial comments attracted different interpretations, with some Nigerians suggesting that he was accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while others understood the warning as criticism of INEC’s management of the electoral process.

However, Okinbaloye maintained that his statement was not directed at any political party or candidate.

The development has renewed attention on the credibility of Nigeria’s voters’ register and the responsibility of electoral authorities to ensure that registration records are properly verified ahead of the 2027 general election.

Okinbaloye’s clarification comes as preparations for the next general election continue, with concerns about electoral transparency and the credibility of the voting process remaining important issues in Nigeria’s political discussions.
