A tragic incident has befallen the family of an army colonel, as he has been killed by gunmen even as his wife has also been shot in Abuja.
Army Colonel Abdussalam Ude, was killed at his home in Kurudu District Abuja, yesterday, in an attack at which his driver and security guard sustained gunshot wounds.
While the latter are now being attended to in hospital, Ude, however could not survive the attack.
His death has left many shell shocked coming when the Army Colonel was readying for his promotion to the rank of rank of Brigadier General .
“He resisted them. From what investigators have gathered, they wanted to take him away, but he fought back. Unfortunately, he paid the ultimate price,” a source familiar with the preliminary investigation was quoted to have said.
The report added that the attackers shot him repeatedly, seeing they had failed in taking him away, thereafter, fleeing.
Sources familiar with the matter said security agencies and military authorities have commenced investigations to identify those responsible for the attack.
Reports on the attack of the colonel said Colonel Ude who hailed from Enugu held a number of strategic positions in the Nigerian Army.
He served in the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps and other strategic intelligence and counter-terrorism appointments.
