If you are a student in Lagos, this artificial intelligence Training, an initiative of TechUp Boys is set up essentially for you.
It is the fourth cohort of TechUp Boys initiative of the Learntor Foundation, a digital transformation non-governmental organisation, and was inaugurated in Lagos yesterday.
Visits, orientation and registration exercises in some secondary schools in Agege, Lagos formed part of the initial activities of the initiative.
It is aimed at educating and equipping underserved boys with technology and soft skills needed for the future of work.
It began with the visits to Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School and Sanngo Senior Secondary School in Education District I, both in Agege.
Following interactive sessions with Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) students in both schools, online registration began in preparation for a two-week boot camp.
“Our goal is to help young boys develop tech skills in AI and understand the importance of maintaining a positive digital presence”, Founder of Learntor Foundation, Mrs Mercy George-Igbafe, said during the inauguration.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Founder of Learntor Foundation, Mrs Mercy George-Igbafe, underscored the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills in today’s digital economy generally and artificial intelligence training particularly .
“We want them to say yes to tech, and no to crime. That is the vision behind the programme”, she added
George-Igbafe said the TechUp Boys programme was aimed at equipping underserved male students in Lagos with AI and digital skills to improve their employability and economic prospects.
According to her, the initiative seeks to economically empower boys from disadvantaged communities by exposing them to technology and helping them build positive digital footprints.
According to her:
- Microsoft had supported the initiative with 300 free licences to enable participants acquire AI skills relevant to the future of work.
- Launched in 2023, the programme has impacted about 13,200 boys across its first three cohorts.
- The fourth cohort will target all SS2 boys in Education District I of Lagos State.
She said the AI training would position participants for future opportunities and enable organisations to identify and recruit talented youths.
